Melville,
New York, July 19, 2000 – Andrea Electronics Corporation (AMEX:
AND) announced today that IBM Corporation (NYSE: IBM) will include
Andrea Electronics’ new NC-7100 Universal Serial Bus (USB) headset
with its ViaVoice® for Macintosh, Enhanced Edition speech recognition
software product. Introduced today by IBM at the MacWorld Expo in
New York, this new software product builds upon the functionality
of its ViaVoice® for Macintosh predecessor, the first and only,
award-winning continuous speech solution for the Macintosh operating
system. Features of the Enhanced Edition include new command and
control capabilities, voice commands for Internet browser and chat
applications and enhanced accuracy with the new Andrea NC-7100 headset
which utilizes USB integrated electronics to provide plug-and-play
connectivity and enhanced digital microphone audio quality. ViaVoice
for Macintosh, Enhanced Edition is available today in North America
through major retail and office supply stores, over the Internet
at ShopIBM (ww.ibm.com/shop) and other online vendors as well as
other traditional channels for Apple® software.
“IBM
listened to the Mac community and ViaVoice for the Macintosh, Enhanced
Edition is a direct result of that feedback. To further enhance
the interactive computing experience, new features include direct
dictation into Macintosh supported applications and the ability
to surf the web by voice,” said Krishna Nathan, Director of IBM
Consumer Voice Systems. “Together with Andrea’s new NC-7100 headset,
we are able to offer a high quality audio solution, utilizing the
rapidly growing USB protocol, for everyday speech applications on
the Mac.”
“IBM
has clearly demonstrated its leadership in speech applications and
communications over various platforms,” said Douglas J. Andrea,
Co-Chairman & Co-Chief Executive Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation.
“As such, we are pleased to be selected by IBM as the preferred
USB audio input solution which was designed to support IBM’s goal
of making accurate and user-friendly speech applications available
to the growing Macintosh customer base.”
The Andrea NC-7100 USB headset incorporates proprietary noise canceling
microphone technology in a cost-effective solution which enables
clear digital audio input for all speech-enabled applications, including
speech recognition, chat, voice-enabled web browsing and online
gaming, with USB-enabled PCs or Macintosh computers. Through a USB
connection, the NC-7100 headset enables high fidelity, digital quality
sound input without the need for a sound card. This headset was
also designed to address USB-only, legacy-free Macintosh platforms
which do not provide any microphone input, such as the Apple iBook™.
The NC-7100 USB frost plastic headset comes with a variety of cool
iMac insert accessories matching Apple’s strawberry, tangerine,
lime, grape, blueberry and graphite colors. As with all Andrea microphone
products, the NC-7100 headset can be used with Andrea’s AudioCommander®
audio interface software to optimize multimedia microphone control
applications, which can be downloaded for free at www.AudioCommander.com.
