Intel
Developer Forum, San Jose, California, August 22, 2000 – Andrea
Electronics Corporation (AMEX: AND) announced today at the Intel
Developer Forum that the Company is shipping its Universal Serial
Bus (USB) Array Microphone. The Andrea USB Microphone Array incorporates
Andrea Electronics’ digital, speech enhancement software technologies,
including patented Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA®) as well
as PureAudio™ algorithms, enabling PC users to operate speech-driven
applications such as Internet telephony, videoconferencing and command
and control speech functions, providing USB plug-and-play capability
while at a distance from the microphone.
The Andrea USB Array Microphone is optimized to run on a host Pentium®
processor and is compatible with any speech application running
on Windows® 98 Second Edition and Windows 2000. Andrea Electronics’
software algorithms adaptively focus on and enhance the user’s voice
while electronically eliminating background noise that would distort
the voice signal. Together, the USB platform and proprietary noise
canceling technologies create a high performance audio input solution
for users of voice-operated applications who seek an easy-to-use,
accurate microphone.
“The
Andrea USB Array will provide consumers operating PC speech command
and control applications an easy to use, plug-and-play audio input
solution,” Douglas J. Andrea, Co-Chairman & Co-Chief Executive Officer
of Andrea Electronics Corporation. “It’s our goal to use this new
audio processing platform with our unique software algorithms to
provide a cost-effective, software-based microphone solution that
significantly increases system performance. In addition, as voice
communications become more sophisticated, we will continue to tailor
our software and offer upgradeable audio input solutions.”
The beta version of the USB Array has been awarded Product of the
Year by Communications Solutions and Call Center Solutions for it
convenience, performance and ease-of-use. In addition to the Andrea
USB Array, Andrea Electronics recently introduced a USB headset,
the Andrea NC-7100, which utilizes USB integrated electronics to
provide plug-and-play connectivity and enhanced digital microphone
audio quality. The Andrea NC-7100 USB headset incorporates proprietary
noise canceling microphone technology in a cost-effective solution
which enables clear digital audio input for all speech-enabled applications,
including speech recognition, chat, voice-enabled web browsing and
online gaming, with USB-enabled PCs or Macintosh computers. The
Andrea NC-7100 is currently being bundled by IBM with its ViaVoice®
for Macintosh, Enhanced Edition speech recognition software product.
