MELVILLE,
N.Y., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Andrea Electronics Corporation (Amex:
AND) announced today that it is participating in Convergence 2000,
a global automotive electronics conference hosted by Delphi Automotive
Systems, taking place October 16-18 at the Cobo Center in Dearborn,
Michigan. At the show, Andrea Electronics' DA-300 AutoArray(TM),
a far-field microphone system optimized for use with in-vehicle
applications, will be utilized in two Ford Motor Company (NYSE:
F) vehicles to demonstrate various voice-activated applications.
Andrea Electronics' array technology will be demonstrated in a Ford
Lincoln LS, which can be found in the Ford Research and Development
Group booth (#1075) and in a Lincoln Navigator, located in the Automotive
Multimedia Interface Collaborator (AMIC) booth (#859). They will
feature the latest telematics applications, including cellular phone,
personal digital assistant (PDA) and human machine interface (HMI)
technologies. Andrea's DA-300 AutoArray(TM) microphone will be used
to demonstrate command and control and voice-activated cellular
phone functions.
"We
are excited that the Andrea DA-300 AutoArray has been selected by
Ford for use in its vehicles at Convergence 2000," said John N.
Andrea, Co-Chairman and Co-Chief Executive Officer of Andrea Electronics
Corporation. "Ford's decision to use Andrea Electronics' technology
demonstrates the market's confidence in Andrea to provide high-end
audio input solutions for noisy automobile environments in the emerging
telematics industry."
Andrea Electronics' noise-canceling digital microphone array technologies
enable the optimal performance of telematics applications by overcoming
the high-noise environment of a moving automobile. Microphones utilized
for in-vehicle applications must be capable of not only focusing
on and enhancing the user's voice, but eliminating background noise
from multiple sources, including wind, radio, engines, the road
and other passengers. Through the incorporation of highly scaleable
and embeddable patented software algorithms and a multiple microphone
design, Andrea's DA-300 AutoArray is capable of focusing microphone
sensitivity on the user's voice while electronically eliminating
ambient noise from all other sources, transmitting only the clear
voice signal to the telematics system.
Convergence 2000 brings together leading technologists, engineers,
and executives from the automotive industry to explore the latest
in automotive electronic trends, issues, challenges and future developments.
The show is sponsored by the Convergence Transportation Electronics
Association (CTEA), which founded the conference more than 25 years
ago; the Institute of Electrical & Electronics Engineers (IEEE)
and the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). Proceeds from the
conference benefit the Convergence Education Foundation (CEF), a
nonprofit organization devoted to developing a passion for mathematics
and science in school-aged children.
