Andrea Electronics Corporation Adds Sophisticated Voice Extraction Processing Algorithm to Its Menu of Digital Audio Enhancing Technologies

MELVILLE, N.Y., Dec. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Andrea Electronics Corporation (Amex: AND) announced today a new addition to its current selection of digital speech-enhancing audio processing technologies. Andrea Electronics' ExactVoice is an adaptive, digital audio software process that utilizes Blind Source Separation principles to extract a voice signal from background noise, enabling the high performance of speech-enabled applications. The new process, which is available on real-time digital signal processor (DSP) platforms and will be available on a software PC platform in the near future, enhances the performance of certain speech applications, in particular cellular telephones, and complements Andrea Electronics' Digital Super Directional Array (DSDA(R)) 2.0 and PureAudio(TM) 2.0 enhancement algorithms.

Utilizing two or more microphone elements, ExactVoice separates the audio microphone signals into two or more original sound sources. In a noisy environment, where the microphones accept both the user's voice signal and background noise, ExactVoice extracts the voice signal and eliminates the noise. As a result, speech applications receive only the desired audio signal. The algorithm, developed by Lamar Signal Processing, Ltd., a wholly owned subsidiary of Andrea Electronics, was optimized to avoid side affects typical of adaptive processes, such as signal distortion or artifacts in the sounds. As with other digital microphone technologies offered by Andrea Electronics, ExactVoice can be used in conjunction with other Andrea Electronics' digital audio algorithms to create a highly customized audio input solution designed around a speech developer's specific needs.

"Our ongoing commitment to research and development has enabled Andrea Electronics to continually develop and market flexible, robust audio input solutions and we are pleased to announce the latest in our technological portfolio of adaptive audio processes for developers of both voice-driven hardware and software," said Joseph Marash, Chief Technology Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation. "Through the addition of ExactVoice to our extensive menu of digital noise canceling and voice and audio enhancing technologies, we are now better equipped to offer a specialized approach to addressing each of our customer's specific speech application requirements."
