| MELVILLE,
N.Y., Sep 27, 2001 /PRNewswire/ -- Andrea Electronics Corporation
(Amex: AND), a leading manufacturer of hardware and software technologies
that optimize the performance of speech-enabled applications and other
voice user interfaces, announced today that Touchbridge Systems, LLC,
has selected Andrea Electronics' array microphone technology for integration
into the Touchbridge Personalized Networking Platform.
The Touchbridge Personalized Networking Platform is an enterprise-strength
networking system that allows fingertip management of myriad communication,
information, and entertainment applications, including high-speed
Internet access for delivery of personalized content. Each station
in the system is operated by a proprietary Touch-Sensitive Monitor
(TSM) that incorporates Andrea's microphone and proprietary noise
canceling technologies, including DSDA(R), PureAudio(TM) and EchoStop(TM).
The microphone array is built into the monitor's bezel and, together
with an accompanying digital signal processing board, the Andrea
solution performs highly effective noise and echo-canceling tasks.
"With
such a sophisticated networking system, we wanted to offer our clients
the best-of-breed in a voice user interface and Andrea was a natural
selection," said Keith Miller, Chief Executive Office of Touchbridge
Systems. "With Andrea's full duplex solution built into each unit,
our customers can experience a voice over IP conversation, untethered,
without unwanted echo or other interfering noises."
"This
is an important milestone for Andrea, as it represents the first-to-market
embedded microphone array for a monitor application," said Joseph
Marash, Chief Technology Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation.
"It is a testament to the scalable nature of our technology, as
our relationship with Touchbridge displays our capability to install
our technologies not only for PC applications, but for home automation
applications as well."
About Touchbridge Systems LLC: The Touchbridge Personalized Networking
Platform features proprietary flat-panel Touch-Sensitive Monitors
(TSMs) and an elegant GUI (Graphical User Interface) designed to
operate intuitively for non-computer users. Built into each TSM
-- available in 15.7" and 18.1" screen sizes -- are the Andrea microphone
array, a video camera, stereo speakers, and a biometric thumbprint
scanner that acts as a guard for each user's personal information.
In addition, the mounting base contains a subwoofer (a speaker dedicated
to low frequencies). Each Touchbridge station in a home or office
comprises a TSM and a fully equipped Personal Tower PC. The stations
are connected to each other and to the Router and Main Server via
100Mbps Ethernet. The Main Server links to the outside world --
and to the Touchbridge Central Server -- via a Symmetrical DSL connection.
Supplied applications include: high-speed Internet access; personal
web pages and messaging center; e-mail; voice mail; Internet telephone;
video conferencing; video surveillance; and hard drive-based CD
jukebox. Each Touchbridge station can run and display multiple applications
simultaneously, including DVD-quality audio and video. The Touchbridge
system can also be "overlaid" onto control systems (such as those
for lighting, climate, security, and entertainment systems), allowing
it to serve as a complete home controller as well.
