Andrea Electronics' Array Microphone Demonstrated at Launch of Windows XP

MELVILLE, N.Y., Oct 25, 2001 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Andrea Electronics Corporation (Amex: AND) announced that the Andrea Electronics DA-400 2.0 Desktop Array(TM) far-field microphone was demonstrated at today's launch of the Microsoft Windows XP operating system. The microphone, which is optimized for use with PC voice applications, was used to demonstrate sound quality breakthroughs in Windows XP for voice calling and to demonstrate voice command for Windows Media Player for Windows XP. The launch event took place at the Marriott Marquis, in the heart of New York City's Times Square theater district.

"Windows XP is the new standard for personal computing and enables compelling end-to-end user experiences in personal communications, digital entertainment, and more," said Mark Lee, lead product manager for Windows XP Marketing at Microsoft Corp. "To showcase some of the important sound quality innovations in Windows XP, we wanted to include an excellent audio input device, so we turned to Andrea and its DA-400 2.0 far-field array microphone."

"We are excited that the Andrea DA-400 has been selected by Microsoft to demonstrate the new voice calling capabilities included with the Windows XP operating system," said Christopher P. Sauvigne, Chief Executive Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation. "Microsoft's decision to use Andrea Electronics' technology further validates Andrea's capability to provide high performance, audio input products for emerging speech-centric applications."

The DA-400 2.0 microphone was included in one set of demonstrations of the sound quality improvements Microsoft has made in Windows XP through the Windows Messenger feature to enable clear-sounding voice calls across the Internet. In addition, the microphone was featured in a demonstration of Plus! Voice command, a key feature of Microsoft Plus! for Windows XP. Plus! Voice Command enables a user to control Windows Media Player for Windows XP "hands-free," using speech commands.

Andrea Electronics DA-400 2.0 incorporates Andrea's patented Digital Super Directional Array 2.0 (DSDA(R)) and patent-pending PureAudio(TM) 2.0 noise canceling software algorithms which enhance speech-enabled applications in mobile, as well as home and office environments. The Andrea DA-400 2.0 microphone provides for the cancellation of background noise and the transmission of a clear voice signal, even when the speaker is at a distance from the microphone.

It utilizes an array of microphones, unique system design and DSP processing to adaptively control multiple acoustic signals to achieve new levels of microphone performance and hands-free operation of critical speech-centric computing.

Windows XP dramatically improves the computing experience for home and business users with revolutionary stability, reliability, security and holistic digital experiences. With Windows XP, consumers can create, play and interact using digital media, home networking, real-time communications, voice and video to do things they have never done before with a PC.
