Melville, NY, April 04, 2002 -- Andrea Electronics Corporation (AMEX:
AND), a leading manufacturer of hardware and software technologies
that optimize the performance of speech-enabled applications and
other voice user interfaces, announced today that the U.S. Patent
and Trademark Office has issued the Company a patent (U.S. Patent
No. 6,363,345) for Andrea's PureAudio noise reduction technology.
Specifically, this patent provides claims directed to Andrea's ability
to study and estimate the interfering ambient noise environment
around a desired speech signal, and efficiently and effectively
attenuate the noise level leaving a clearer and cleaner speech signal.
This technology is very effective in eliminating stationary noise
signals as well as ambient diffused noises generated by, for example,
computer fans, system-inherent electrical interference, and air
conditioning systems used in vehicles, offices and homes. By using
Andrea's PureAudio, a user will experience better and clearer communication
as well as better speech recognition performance. It can be implemented
in a stand-alone or embedded form factor, and it can be used with
either single element microphone products or in conjunction with
multiple microphone element products.
"This technology
is unique for a number of reasons ," said Joseph Marash, Chief
Technology Officer of Andrea Electronics Corporation. "It allows
us to accurately study and estimate unwanted noise even when it
is heavily masked and embedded within speech signals, and it allows
us to quickly and adaptively study stationary and non stationary
noises. The result is a very stable, quick, accurate and efficient
algorithm that is characterized by low musical noise, exceptionally
short latency, clear speech quality and overall high levels of noise
reduction."
