Melville, New
York, June 10, 2002 - Andrea Electronics Corporation (AMEX: AND)
announced today the launch of its Superbeam® Array Microphone,
a breakthrough PC microphone peripheral that was designed to enable
widespread adoption of voice as a mainstream, end-user productivity
tool. The Superbeam Array, enabled with Andrea's PureAudio®
and DSDA® technologies, can be purchased at a price lower than
a standard PC headset and represents the computer industry's first
affordable microphone device that not only overcomes unwanted acoustical
and electrical noises, but also the common end-user objection to
wearing a headset. The Suberbeam Array is targeted for mainstream,
speech-based desktop PC applications such as VoIP, voice command
and control for data mining, as well as for various speech-to-text
applications. Supporting the resurgence of interest in these speech-based
applications, according to a recent Microsoft announcement , the
company has already licensed 60 million copies of its Microsoft®
Office XP, which is enabled for both voice-activated command and
control and for continuous speech dictation. The Superbeam Array
has garnered industry-wide attention, as evidenced by Analog Devices'
announcement today to ship SoundMAX Cadenza Digital Audio Software
which incorporates Andrea's PureAudio and DSDA technologies.
"We are
committed to providing a high quality integrated audio experience,"
said Joel Christensen, Marketing Director of Intel's Desktop Platform
Solutions Division. "By supporting Andrea's high-performance
Superbeam Array Microphone, we are offering end-users the ability
to communicate freely with their PCs, at an extremely affordable
price point."
"The development
of the Superbeam Array Microphone represents a milestone for Andrea
Electronics as we have succeeded in providing a voice-input solution
to PC developers, OEMs and system integrators requiring a cost-effective,
high-performance microphone solution to advance PC communications,"
said Douglas J. Andrea, Chairman of Andrea Electronics Corporation.
"Unparalleled in price and performance, and unique in its ability
to free users from having to wear a headset, the Superbeam Array
will serve as a key enabler for office productivity, supporting
Andrea's vision of voice as a mainstream method of PC input."
