Melville,
New York, December 5, 2002 - Andrea Electronics Corporation (Amex:
AND - News), a leading provider of hardware and software audio input
technologies, and Marconi (MONI), a global telecommunications equipment
and solutions company, announced today that the parties have signed
a license agreement for Marconi to integrate a number of Andrea's
proprietary audio software technologies into the Marconi ViPr Virtual
Presence System (ViPrTM). The ViPr conference system is a new network
appliance developed by Marconi that enables secure, high resolution,
real-time, multimedia communications between people in geographically
dispersed locations. This revolutionary communications system, enabling
real-time collaboration and multi-point conferencing, turns the
vision of virtual presence into an everyday tool for improving executive
decision-making.
The addition
of Andrea Electronics' hands-free audio system includes an advanced
stereo version of Andrea's patented EchoStop®, as well as its
patented DSDA® 2.0 and PureAudio® 2.0 noise canceling algorithms,
among others. The implementation of Andrea's microphone array, which
is embedded in the monitor of the ViPr system, together with the
proprietary audio technologies, allows users to carry on a discussion
at normal conversational levels, even in a noisy room. Background
noise is cancelled out, as is all the sound coming from the speakers,
to create an environment that breeds natural conversations.
"After
extensively reviewing several microphone technologies available
in the market today, Andrea Electronics' portfolio proved to be
an overwhelmingly superior solution for this breakthrough virtual
presence system," said Dennis Rowlands, vice president, Application
Platforms, Marconi's Broadband Routing & Switching group. "Audio
quality is a critical element for any real-time, multi-point communications
system, and with Andrea Electronics' audio technologies, Marconi's
ViPr system provides a virtual presence environment that dramatically
accelerates and enhances executive decision-making in government,
military and corporate enterprise markets."
"The need for superior audio quality is increasingly critical
in the video conferencing markets as multi-point conferencing alternatives
are becoming more common for conducting mission-critical meetings,"
said Christopher P. Sauvigne, President and Chief Executive Officer
of Andrea Electronics Corporation. "We are proud of what we've
accomplished with Marconi's ViPr system, and we look forward to
continued successes in the growing video communications market."
Real-time, global
demonstrations of Marconi's ViPr system were conducted at SC2002,
a conference of high-performance computing, networking and data
technologies, in the Baltimore Convention Center, November 18 -
21, where sites in Honolulu, HI; Belleville, IL; Stuttgart, Germany;
and Washington, D.C. were linked with Marconi's booth. ViPr is also
being demonstrated at the U.S. Naval Research Lab in Washington,
D.C., and through every-day user-experiences in several government
locations.
