The Andrea Electronics Corporation was founded by Frank A.D. Andrea Sr. in 1934 as the Andrea Radio Corp. Andrea Radio was a leader in radio production in the 1940s. The Company was know for producing the "Cadillac of televisions" in the 1950s and in 1960 flew into space providing the astronaut audio intercom system for project Mercury spacecrafts. The Company went public in 1961 and is now trading under the symbol ANDR.OB. In the 1970s and 1980s Andrea Electronics became a premier supplier of high performance avionic intercom equipment for defense industry OEM manufacturers, like Bell Helicopter, Boeing, Lockheed and Sikorsky Helicopter.
Utilizing its experience in audio intercom systems for high noise environments, the Company formed an Active Noise Cancellation division in 1990 and changed its name to Andrea Electronics Corporation to better reflect its new strategic direction. The Company has successfully transformed itself from a manufacturer of avionics and military intercommunication systems to become a supplier of patented audio technologies, incorporated into converging mobile computing products to provide enhanced voice input and improve the performance of voice centric applications. Andrea is highly skilled in the development of hi-definition microphone and earphone technologies utilizing digital signal processing (DSP). Our core competency in the DSP audio domain is focused on enhancing the sound quality and performance of microphone applications for consumer electronics, industrial and professional audio markets.
Since its inception, Andrea has gone through a remarkable evolution, meeting the ever-changing needs of the audio communications marketplace. Andrea pioneered the development of the array microphone, computer headsets, Universal Serial Bus (USB) computer audio interface accessories, related audio enhancement and control software. The company introduced the first commercially available digital array microphone in 1998 for use with the Clarion Auto PC utilizing the Windows CE command and control speech recognition user interface. The Company maintains its intellectual property portfolio of patented digital noise reduction (PureAudio), adaptive beam forming (DSDA), microphone array systems (SuperBeam), full-duplex acoustic echo cancelation (EchoStop) and computer audio control and enhancement software (AudioCommander) among others. Andrea Electronics proprietary audio technologies have gained a widespread following and support from industry leaders such as IBM Corporation, Microsoft Corporation, Intel, Dell and HP as well as end users.
